Car rental without deposit in Essaouira: how does it work at Louizi?
All major agencies block €500–1500 on your credit card. Not Louizi. We explain our simplified deposit system, no freeze, no mandatory credit card.
The car rental deposit. It's often the bad surprise of the trip. You arrive at the airport, you're about to sign for your car, and the clerk tells you he'll be blocking €800, €1000, sometimes €1500 on your card. A credit card, debit cards don't count, he says. And then either you don't have a credit card, or you don't want to freeze that amount for two weeks, or your bank refuses. Result: stress, negotiations, sometimes the whole rental plan falls apart.
We've heard this story many times from our clients. It's one of the reasons we built Louizi differently.
How deposits work at major agencies
When you rent from Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, Budget, or any local franchisee working under their banner, here's what happens in practice:
- •An amount between €500 and €1500 is pre-authorised on your credit card. Not immediately debited, but "frozen": you can't spend that money during the entire rental period.
- •Debit cards are generally refused for this type of pre-authorisation.
- •The amount is released after vehicle return, 7 to 15 working days depending on your bank.
The problem is real, especially for travellers who: - Only have a debit card (Revolut, N26, Wise) - Have a limited card ceiling - Are travelling on a tight budget
What Louizi does differently
A cash deposit. At vehicle handover, you leave a cash deposit of 1000 to 2000 dirhams depending on the vehicle (approx €90–180). This amount is set aside in a sealed envelope with your name on it.
Returned in full at drop-off. When you return the car, the envelope is opened in front of you and the money is handed back. No processing time, no bank delays.
Nothing on your card. No pre-authorisation, no frozen funds. You can come with a debit card, a Revolut, an N26, or even no card at all.
No mandatory credit card. This has been our position from day one. It's what nearly every client mentions in their Google reviews.
The conditions of our deposit
The deposit covers potential uninsured damages (traffic violations, intentional damage, wrong fuel). The insurance included in your rental covers standard incidents (accident, theft, fire).
In 5 years of operation, we've deducted from the deposit only a handful of times.

All we need in addition: a valid ID (passport) and your driving licence.
