Huge surf beach 25 km south, laid-back atmosphere: camel or horse rides on the sand. Stop at an argan cooperative on the way. Morning at the fishing harbour with its blue boats, lunch at the fish grills (60-80 MAD), afternoon at the Skala de la Kasbah for the panoramic ocean view.

The Argan road + Essaouira
Argan oil cooperatives — the most authentic ones at the end of a dirt track — amlou tasting, and goats watching you from the argan branches. Essaouira’s main beach for a windy walk down to Diabat village, or head to Sidi Kaouki and Moulay Bouzerktoun where the surf and kitesurf schools are. Hammam at the end of the day.

Souks & art galleries
Wander the souks, where haggling is part of the game: thuya marquetry workshops, the spice souk, Moulay Hassan square and the art galleries on rue Ibn Rochd. Fresh orange juice break (15-20 MAD).

Unhurried wandering: coffee at Chez Driss, the oldest patisserie in town, reading by the ocean, sunset from a terrace. Essaouira is best enjoyed slowly.
